Incompatible List

A “Water Additives” category has been added to the Incompatible Products List.

F-500 Multi-Purpose Encapsulator Agent has been added to the Water Additives category with a “3” designation.  This product also goes by the names: F-500 Encapsulator Agent, F-500EA, and #F-500EA and is manufactured by Hazard Control Technologies, Inc.

*3 - These products have been determined to be incompatible based on compositional information found in the manufacturer’s labeling or published literature. One or more ingredients reported by the manufacturer is the same as or chemically similar to ingredients identified as having caused or contributed to piping system failure with similar products (the products designated with a 1).

Other Topics List

The “Residual Oils with HVAC Applications” topic on the Other Chemical Compatibility Topics page has been renamed to “Lubricants in HVAC Applications”.

The recommendation has also been updated to reflect this revision:

While refrigerant and/or compressor lubricant should not normally enter the recirculating fluid in a properly operating system, they may be released into the recirculating fluid and/or condensate drain in the event of a rupture of the heat exchanger. Polyol ester (POE) lubricants are incompatible with CPVC and will likely cause cracking of the fittings and/or pipe if they are released into the recirculating fluid or condensate drain. Lubrizol is not aware of any failures of HVAC piping systems that have been caused by other types of compressor lubricants including mineral oils, polyvinyl ethers (PVE), polyalkylene glycols (PAG) or polyalpha-olefins (PAO).

In the event of a heat exchanger failure (and particularly with POE lubricants), it is recommended to drain and flush the CPVC piping and to replace the contaminated fluid with clean fluid while the system is being repaired in order to minimize further piping damage.

Be aware that damage to the piping may already have occurred and that flushing may not completely remove all the oil from crevices in the system. Therefore, while draining and flushing is recommended to minimize damage, it is not guaranteed to prevent leaks from occurring in the piping system.

Some heat exchangers or condenser coils may contain residual oils from the manufacturing process which can cause cracking of CPVC. Caution should be exercised when installing CPVC in combination hot water/air heating units or as condensate drain lines for air conditioning systems. Confirm the compatibility of CPVC with the residual oils prior to installation. The interior of heat exchangers or the exterior of condenser coils may be thoroughly flushed with mild ionic detergent solution (2% TSP in water, for example) to remove incompatible oils prior to piping installation. A rinse with clean water to completely clean the system is advisable as a final flushing.

A new topic has been added for Concrete:

CPVC may be installed in direct contact with concrete – either butted against or installed embedded in according topipe manufacturer’s instructions.

Note: Pipe and fittings shall not be installed in concrete that is to be post tensioned. The post tensioning process can create excessive forces which can damage the piping system.

Also see section titled "Fireproofing / Soundproofing".

The “Fireproofing” category has been renamed “Fireproofing / Soundproofing”.  The guidance has been revised to include soundproofing:

Cementitious and / or gypsum-based fireproofing / soundproofing material is not
incompatible with CPVC.

THE LUBRIZOL FBC™ SYSTEM COMPATIBLE PROGRAM

Products qualify for the program by undergoing testing that demonstrates the product is compatible with FlowGuard Gold Pipe & Fittings, BlazeMaster Fire Protection Systems, and Corzan Industrial Systems and Products made with TempRite® Technology.

Manufacturers of the program's products are committed to maintaining necessary product quality and agree not to change the chemical composition of the product without advance written notice. If there is a change in the chemical composition, manufacturers must re-submit their products in order to be included in the FBC System Compatible Program. Manufacturers must also submit their products to periodic testing to ensure the products remain chemically compatible. Because CPVC products are made with base resins having different molecular weights and varying chlorine contents and compound additives, the FBC System Compatible Program can verify chemical compatibility of products made with Lubrizol's FlowGuard, BlazeMaster, and Corzan and
Products made with TempRite® Technology with the ancillary products tested and added to the Lubrizol FBC™ System Compatible Program.

Products in the program display the FBC System Compatible mark on their labels. This mark quickly notifies installers that the product is chemically compatible with FlowGuard, BlazeMaster, and Corzan and
Products made with TempRite® Technology. The FBC System Compatible Program is in active use in the United States, Canada, Mexico, 25 European countries, the United Arab Emirates, India and China.
